Ethan T. Bowen

Ethan T. Bowen (Ensemble)

is very happy to return to Vermont Stage for his twelfth show with the company and second with Jason Jacobs. Ethan was seen last season at VSC as Louis de Rougmont in Shipwrecked, Elliot in Opus, and in Winter Tales 2009 reading Kathy Blume's "Coming to Town, Part II" which featured Gonzo, the Elf.  An Artistic Associate with VSC, previous productions include the Moss Hart Award winning play Mad River Rising by Dana Yeaton, Midwives, O'Carollan's Farewell to Music, Piano Stories, Amadeus, and Someone Who'll Watch Over Me, among others. With an MFA from the Graduate Acting Program at New York University, he has worked with such theaters as: The Joseph Papp Public Theater, The Acting Company, Lost Nation Theater, St. Michael's Playhouse, and more recently in Washington DC at Woolly Mammoth Theater, Olney Theater Center, The Shakespeare Theatre, Roundhouse Theater and Theater J. A board member of the White River Valley Players, Ethan also directs, (including last fall's world premiere of RANSOM) teaches, and is a long-time artist-in-residence with the Vermont Stage Young Playwrights Program. Ethan lives with his lovely wife, Courtney, in central Vermont.

Patti  Casey

Patti Casey (Ensemble)

Native Vermonter Patti Casey has been called  "...the voice of Vermont contemporary music" by the Times Argus. With a voice that's strong and sweet, a catalog of timeless songs, and a history of penning classics that have found their way into the folk music world across the United States, Patti has become the vocal backbone for many of our region's finest musical productions.  Her list of awards includes Kerrville Folk Festival Songwriting Contest winner, Chris Austin Song Writing Contest winner, South Florida Folk Festival Songwriting Competition finalist, A Prairie Home Companion "Talent From Towns Under 2000" winner, and Telluride Songwriting Competition Finalist. Patti has written and directed music for Burlington's Vermont Stage Company, and has produced 5 independent recordings of her music, 3 of which landed in the Seven Days Top Ten Recordings of the Year. Her 2010 release "The Heart of a Waiting Boy" was named Top Country Album of 2010 by the Times Argus/Rutland Herald and was the fourth most-played album in the worldwide folk circuit for the month of February 2011 (FolkDJ Radio). She provided soundtrack music for Pasture Productions' award-winning independent film "The Summer of Walter Hacks," and for the independent documentary film "Brush and Pen: Artists and Writers of the White Mountains." She tours nationally with Vermont's venerable folk band The Woods Tea Co., and lives in central Vermont. http://www.patticasey.com/

Chris  Caswell

Chris Caswell (Ensemble)

is a playwright and actress celebrating her 6th year in this wonderful city.  She's directing Seth Jarvis' new play ICON to be produced at Off Center for the Dramatic Arts this March (fb: ICON The Play).  With VSC, she performed in Oliver Twist, Shipwrecked!, and Well; and is really excited to be in the upcoming production of As You Like It.  This is her third time as a Winter Tales reader.  Chris co-founded Heat & Hot Water Productions (heatandhotwater.com) with whom she creates and performs.

Liz  Gilbert

Liz Gilbert (Ensemble)

has been onstage since age 5. Involved in proffessional and community theater, Liz has worked with local Vermont companies such as Lost Nation Theater, Vermont Stage Company, and Green Candle Theater as well as having performed in numerous plays with the Montpelier Theater Guild and Stage 32. Favorite roles include Helen Keller in The Miracle Worker, Scout in To Kill a Mockingbird, Rosalee in Maura Campbell's Rosalee Was Here, and two seasons in the ensemble of Winter Tales. Also a singer, Liz has studied musical theater with Bill Reed and Alan Langdon, performed at the Skinner Barn, and sung with the VYO chorus, Young Singers' Chorus of Vermont, and the FlynnArts Show Choir. When she's not at dance class, rehearsal, or running, Liz enjoys just being 16 at home in East Montpelier.

Craig  Maravich

This marks Craig's 4th show with Vermont Stage Company and he would like to extend his thanks to Mark and the entire VSC community for the opportunity to create in such a fulfilling environment.

Recently, Craig completed working with The Bread Loaf Acting Ensemble where he played multiple roles in the play Mad Forest. He also served as a teaching artist at Bread Loaf alongside some of the nations leading literary scholars and professors of English and theatre.

Regionally, Craig has worked with theatres throughout the Northeast and Washington, DC including: The Kennedy Center, Long Wharf Theatre, The Shakespeare Theatre (DC), Washington Shakespeare Co., Source Theatre, ACT Co., Elm Shakespeare, Yale University, St. Michael's Playhouse, and Middlebury Actor's Workshop. 

As an educator, Craig teaches acting and has taught theatre/acting in various capacities including work with Yale University, Middlebury College Bread Loaf School of English, St. Michael's College, The Flynn Center for Performing Arts and several guest lecturing assignments.

Heather  Nielsen

Heather Nielsen (Ensemble)

is delighted to appear in her first Winter Tales, having previously worked with Vermont Stage Company in King Lear , as Cordelia and as Sister James in Doubt .  A Minnesota native, she graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College and was active in educational theater in the Twin Cities, teaching and performing with CLIMB Theater Company, The Youth Performance Company, and The Gaia Collective.  Other local roles have included Lea in Strawberries in January at Champlain Theatre, and Kate Keller in The Miracle Worker at Lost Nation Theater.  In the past few years, she's also directed shows for young people, taught summer camps with Flynn Arts and created issue-oriented theater and art with the Vermont Worker's Center!  Heather thanks VSC for this opportunity, Bill Reed for his vocal coaching, and wishes you all a peace-filled holiday season!

Pete  Sutherland

Pete Sutherland (Ensemble)

a native Vermonter, has toured nationally and internationally and is also a sought-after record producer, roots-based composer, multi-instrumentalist, performer, collage artist, teacher, and more. A Middlebury College Affiliate Artist, Pete continues to expand the boundaries of his various adopted instrumental languages while sharing them with an ever-widening circle of students of all ages. Recently he completed work on the soundtrack of the George Woodard film The Summer of Walter Hacks, and is also featured as an author for the first time in this edition of Winter Tales.

Jennifer Moulton (Stage Manager)

is thrilled to be working on My Ohio, her 13th  production with VSC. Jen graduated from the University of Vermont in  '06 with a degree in Theatre. She then spent the 2006/2007 season  working as the Stage Management Apprentice at Round House Theatre in  Bethesda MD. Jen would like to thank Mark, Lisa and the cast for a  great show, her family for their constant support, and Evan for always  believing in her, much love!

John B. Forbes (Lighting Design Supervisor)

has previously designed the lighting for Photograph 51, Oliver Twist, The Glass MenagerieOpus, My OhioKing LearInspecting Carol, Woody Guthrie's American Song, True WestCopenhagen, The Foreigner and The Drawer Boy at Vermont Stage Company.  In addition he has designed the lighting for productions at the Old Globe Theatre, the San Diego Repertory Theatre, the Center Repertory Company, and the Ensemble Theatre Company, all in California.  He has also designed lighting for Theatre Aspen in Colorado; the Riverside Shakespeare Company and Theatre Matrix in New York; the Arizona Theatre Company, and Saint Michael's Playhouse, the Big APE Dance Company and Lost Nation Theatre in Vermont.  He is the winner of three L. A. Dramalogue awards for his designs at the Old Globe Theatre and three Shelley Awards for his designs with the Center Repertory Company.  He is the faculty lighting designer at the University of Vermont in the Department of Theatre, and his lighting design for UVM's production of Metamorphoses was displayed in the Gallery Exhibit at the World Stage Design Exhibition in Toronto.  He has also taught at San Diego State University and the University of San Diego, and while at U.S.D., he also managed Shiley Theatre.  In that capacity he served as the technical liaison between the University and the Presidential Debate Commission for the final Presidential Debate of 1996 held there.

Laura Michelle (Assistant Stage Manager)

is a senior Theatre major at St. Michael's College. Recently, she worked with Vermont Stage as an ASM for Opus , and is thrilled to be back for Winter Tales ! Laura spent two summers at St. Michael's Playhouse as the electrics intern, and designed lights for the Playhouse, Jr. productions of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, and A Year With Frog And Toad. On stage credits: The Heiress(Kennedy Center Award for Outstanding Creative Ensemble), As You Like It, The Laramie Project, and the upcoming Almost, Maine. Film: Disney's College Road Trip and Our Plastic Footprint, shown at the Vermont International Film Festival.

Christine Brauch (Lighting Designer)

has a BA in Theatre from UVM and is grateful for this opportunity to work on The Clean House. Previous lighting credits include Steel Magnolias, several one-act plays, and co-designing VSC's own Winter Tales. She lives in Burlington, VT, and wants to congratulate everyone on a successful run!

Ashley McKhann (Lighting Designer)

is a junior studying math and physics at the University of Vermont.  She is excited to be able to work with Vermont Stage Company for the first time.  In the past, she has worked in the UVM Theatre Department as Head Electrician for Eurydice, and as Assistant Lighting Designer for You Can't Take It With You.  Thanks to John and Mark for this great opportunity.
